The eCLINICIAN clinical information system (CIS) brought a large portion of Alberta Health Services ambulatory care clinics into a full digital health records. Many lessons were learned over a decade of growth. Indeed, some lessons prove interesting to clinical informaticians elsewhere.
"Utilization of computerized clinical decision support for potentially inappropriate medications" appears in this month's issue of Clinical Interventions in Aging. This work started as a Physician Builder project, benefited from an AHS clinical improvement grant, and empowered quality improvements in family medicine, geriatrics and internal medicine.
We hope to build upon clinical decision support innovations as we move from build to deployment of the Connect Care provincial CIS.
